In 1978, the Lotus team won the F1 World Championship with the Formula 1 Type 79 driven by Mario Andretti. To celebrate this victory, a special edition of the Esprit S2 is produced. Mechanically identical to the regular 2.0 L S2, the car features the black and gold colours of the cigarette manufacturer John Player Special, a Lotus sponsor, including ‘World Champion’ written on the side. Each copy is numbered and that number can be seen next to the fuel filler. According to Wikipedia, reliable estimates suggest that 149 Commemorative Esprit cars were made.
This Lotus Esprit S2 JPS, as they are more commonly known, has been subject to a full nut and bolt restoration over the last 3 years. Its edition number is 48. An exceptional car!
