In an interview, Giorgetto Giugiaro who designed the first Fiat Panda in 1979, compared it to a pair of jeans:
«La Panda (…) è come un paio di jeans, che sono poi un vestire semplice, pratico, senza fronzoli. (…) Ho cercato di portare in questa auto lo spìrito delle costruzioni militari, in particolare degli elicotteri, ossia di mezzi leggeri, razionali, nati per assolvere nel modo migliore a certi scopi».
The Panda (…) is like a pair of jeans: a simple item, practical, without frills. (…) I have tried to bring into this car the spirit of military machinery, in particular helicopters, i.e. of light, rational means, built to perform in the best way for certain purposes.
The Fiat Panda was first introduced in Italy in February 1980, but it was not launched as a RHD model in the UK until 1981.
In 1986, the Fiat Panda underwent significant changes and mechanical improvements (model code 141A) which resulted in a large number of parts being redesigned, thus introducing incompatibilities with the previous models. The 652 cc air-cooled two-cylinder engine was replaced by a 769 cc (34 PS) water-cooled four-cylinder unit.
This Fiat Panda is very rare car as it is 1 of only 9 left in the UK. It starts, runs and drives well and will benefit from a 12 months MOT included in the price. It had only 3 previous owners listed on the V5 log book and comes with the original hand books.
As can be seen from the photos one of the doors needs a repair section but the rest of the body is in fairly good order.
